Jackson Hole POV, New Touring Tech, FIS Controversy in Switzerland, and more...
We're sorry if you missed out on last year's season in the Tetons - it was in fact as good as it looked on everyone's social media channels. Just to rub it in, here's another look at what was perhaps one of the finest winters we've experienced from the POV of Jackson local shredder Dylan Dipentima. Actually, these clips were shot over the course of two winters, which makes it that much better. Dylan checked off just about every famous hollywood line we can think of in the neighborhood and shows off quite a few hidden ones!.
10/31/23 - This week’s stoke:
What we’re watching:
(NOT) The fifty Comstock - We love Cody. We love the fifty project. They’ve had some of the best and most real ski videos in the industry. But in our opinion you should save your self the 23 minutes. In this episode they make a second attempt on the classic Comstock Cuoloir and turn around again. But don’t take take our word for it, watching Cody is never really a bad time
Terra Incognita - If you haven’t caught on yet we love under ground grass roots ski films. This one follows a group of locals as they put down first descents and explore the Southern alps of new Zealand. Watch as they put some rad lines and pass time at camp building kickers with the crew.
The Beta:
Controversy Over FIS Excavating Swiss glacier- The Theodul glacier in Zermatt, Switzerland is being partially excavated to make room for a new World Cup ski race track. Protect Our Winters and other sources show heavy machinery on the glacier, moving snow and ice to fill in crevasses to create a new FIS speed course, calling for members to sign a petition stopping the work. FIS has responded by defending their actions, saying the snow was simply being "moved around," not removed. The local government has since put a halt to the work.
Arapahoe Basin Opens - While they technically got beat for first lifts open in the US as we reported last week, Arapahoe basin had a killer opening day this Sunday. They opened to an 11 inch powder day with good skiing conditions. We’re sure Loveland ski area will be quick to follow.
Elevating the Craft:
Daymaker Touring Releases Tekdapters - Daymaker Touring debuted a new tech-boot compatible touring adapter - the Tekdapter. Designed with safety and stability for hard-charging freeride skiers in mind, this tool gives you the ability to tour uphill on dedicated alpine bindings like the Salomon STH, Look Pivot, or Marker Duke with a boot fitted with tech inserts. The system weighs in at 1060 grams per pair. Is this the future of ski bindings? We think not, but it seems like a promising tool for a specific purpose - like skinning out to a backcountry jump, or keeping on your sled or in a sidecountry pack for emergencies.
Sidetracked:
Keystone opens on 1st - We know, we know, more skiing news. But hard not to get excited with the amount of coverage they have. They plan to open over 2 miles of ski terrain which isn’t your typical white ribbon of death this time of year.
