Hyper Focus, Candide's New Skis, WYSAW, Avy Scholarships and more...

It's no secret that the Tetons are a breeding ground for big-mountain skiing and snowboarding talent. In yet ANOTHER mind-blowing film from last winter, local Tristan "Teton" Brown shows off his pedigree as one of the most adventurous and creative freeriders of the current generation. Check out his short film Hyper Focus, where he ticks off a number of wild descents just out the JHMR - some of which have never been ridden before.

11/7/23 - This week’s stoke:

What we’re watching:

  • Mountain Biker Tries to Beat Kilian Jornet's UTMB Time - Mountain biker Matthew Fairbrother is on another level - for the last two years, he raced every stop of the EWS (now the Enduro World Cup), and pedaled his bike between all the races. That added up to an average of over 100 miles a day on a loaded-down 170mm travel mountain bike. This past summer, Fairbrother took on a new challenge to see if he could beat Kilian Jornet's time on the UTMB ultra-running course. The 100-mile, nearly 27,000 vertical foot course through the Mont Blanc Massif is one of the hardest running races in the world, and it actually looks to contain some really good riding. For the record, Kilian's time was 19h 49M 32S.

  • Alex Hackel Breaks Down His Favorite 2023 Movie Seg - Alex Hackel is a funny guy, and if you've ever met him, he's not afraid to speak his mind. It's no mystery when he gets really stoked about something, evident here as he gives his two cents on what might be one of the best ski segments in years - Colby Stevenson's part in Crescendo.

The Beta:

  • Candide Thovex launches Candide Skis - It's probably one of the industry's worst-kept secrets that Candide has been working on a new brand of skis since he left Faction two years ago. This week, the french skier officially launched Candide Skis with three products including 101, 111, and 121 underfoot skis. They seem very similar to what he was working on with Faction and even CoreUPT before that - twin rocker, almost symmetrical skis that cater to aggressive freestyle-oriented skiing.

Elevating the Craft:

Sidetracked:

  • Seth Morrison Returns To The Pages of Powder Magazine - Seth Morrison might just be one the most legendary names in skiing, but a few years ago, he more or less just dropped off the map. Last year, he (sort of) appeared in the pages of the Mountain Gazette, but we just found him again in a photo essay in the newly re-vamped Powder Magazine, skiing in Greenland with his wife and filmmaker Aurelie Gonin.
