Butter, Thin snowpacks, Pro Skier runs for US Senate and more ..

Skiing with your friends is one of the best things ever - we're all for friends on a pow day. That's kind of been the M.O. of The Blondes aka Tonje Kvivik, Emily Childs, and Janelle Yip - the hardest charging gang of ladies from Revelstoke. Their latest short films explores their origin story, what makes them tick, and features shredding some monstrous BC lines.

1/10/24 - This week’s stoke:

What we’re watching:

  • Blaine Gallivan in Bread and Butter - Teton local shredder Blaine Gallivan is a man of many talents. Outside of stylish skiing, he's a professional baker, specializing in delicious sourdough bread and pizza. With his wife Franny, he started a specialty catering company In Season, and his latest short films explores the connection between his shared vision for food and skiing.

  • Nikolai and friends ignore red flags and almost pay the price - Many of us understand the feeling of having too much excitement for a ski line, especially when it’s one of the first of the season. In this video, we see what can happen when that excitement overrides obvious red flags. The boys here got lucky and got away with two close calls that could have easily turned out way worse.

The Beta:

  • Caroline Gleich is running for the US Senate - Pro skier and climate activist Caroline Gleich is running for the United States Senate. She is running as a Democrat to replace Utah's outgoing Mitt Romney, who is vacating his seat, and plans to run on a platform in line with her environmental activism. Her chances in deep-red Utah are slim, according to the Salt Lake Tribune.

  • Historically thin snowpack in Jackson - We know that we've been talking about it for weeks, but it's officially been a historically low tide early season in the Tetons, and across most of the mountain west, for that matter. Local meteo guy Alan Smith tells us that for the past month, the Tetons have seen less than six inches of snow above 8,000 feet, and less below that. Good thing it's finally turning on again!

  • Kye Petersen Is On the Low Pressure Podcast - Mark from the Low Pressure Podcast sits down with Kye Petersen to chat about his unique career - entering the industry as a grom following in his father's footsteps. They talk about everything from dropping into a FWT comp as a wildcard, his latest film series Sacred Grounds, and the changes he's experienced in our ever-shifting industry.

Elevating the Craft:

  • Mammut's Barryvox S2 comes with an app to train beacon searches - This was already announced a few weeks ago, and we're sorry we missed it. Mammut is finally releasing an updated Barryvox S avalanche beacon, complete with voice commands and an app that allows you train multiple burials without a beacon park or burying multiple beacons.

Sidetracked:

  • Amer sports files for US IPO - The Finnish parent company of Salomon, Atomic, Armada, Arcteryx and bike brands like ENVE just officially announced filing for an IPO in the US. Amer Sports confidentially filed back in September, with an estimated value of nearly $10 billion, according to Bloomberg.
