FWT Georgia Highlights, Biking, JHMR Lift Lines, and more...

Some sort of unexplained gravitational anomaly occured in Georgia last week on comp day for the third stop of the 2024 FWT. This was the highest scoring competition in FWT history, with multiple cork 7s, deep, stable pow, and a one-of-a-kind venue.

3/06/23 - This week’s stoke:

What we’re watching:

  • Red Bull Hardline Tasmania Replay - Not skiing, but outside Rampage, this is the closest thing to big-mountain skiing on bikes. It's a freeride comp mixed with a DH race. For the first time, Red Bull Hardline has a second stop outside of Europe. Riders gathered in Tasmania to hurl themselves down the scariest DH race course ever built.

  • Kodama | Hokkaido Pow - Anyone who went to Japan this winter knows it was GOOD. This crew of longtime friends absolutely scored on a trip to Hokkaido's Kiroro area, fully immersing themselves in the best treeskiing the island has to offer. Yes, Japan is worth the hype.

The Beta:

  • Big Storm Closes Jackson Hole - JHMR saw some absolutely ridiculous weather last week, leading to some absurd liftlines, a resort closure, and eventually some absurd riding conditions! As if 4 feet wasn't enough, there's more in the forecast.

  • Two Fatal Avalanches Last Week - Sadly, there were 2 fatal avalanche accidents involving snowmobilers last week in Idaho and Washington. The first occured in the Pack River area of northern ID, near the Canadian border on 3/1. The second occured the same day in Washington's Darland Mountain area.

Elevating the Craft:

  • What Skis Should You Get For Steep Skiing? - Legendary steep skiing guides Kim Havell and Aurel Lardy weigh in on what gear they look for when it comes to steep skiing. Surprisingly, there's no consensus. Turns out skiing what you're comfortable on in gnarly terrain is the best choice.

Sidetracked:

  • Alex Hackel Throws $$$ At Skiers For Tricks - Swerve skiing pioneer and member of the BUNCH Alex Hackel literally threw money at kids to do tricks at a recent freestyle comp in Sunshine Village, AB. Thanks for keeping it real, Alex.

Thanks for reading and see you next week,
