FWT Finals, No More Fifty, Spring storms and more...
The 2024 FWT season absolutely changed the game. Never have we seen this level of consistency among the best skiers and snowboarders in the world throughout the whole year, and the Verbier Finals were no different. Congrats to Hedvig Wessel and Max Hitzig on their well-deserved World Champ titles, and to everyone else for going absolutely BANANAS on the gnarliest face in comp riding.
3/27/24 - This week’s stoke:
What we’re watching:
The Redline Traverse - Tahoe-based skiers Jenna Kane and Greg Cunningham went for an insanely long walk last winter, traversing 200 miles along the crest of the High Sierra, from Mount Whitney all the way to Mammoth. Who wants to go ski traversing this spring?
Cody is Officially Done with the Fifty - Did Cody throw in the towel? Or is he just a smart man and decided to go skiing for fun? Either way, he's announced that he's done with the Fifty - for now. Catch the last episode here.
The Beta:
Spring storms inbound for PNW, Wyo/Wasatch, and Sierra - A series of snowy spring storms are inbound for the West coast, with double digit totals for California on Wed/Thu plus more on the tail end. The PNW and the rockies will also get a dump later in the week. It might have been spring last week, but winter has returned with a vengeance.
Sidetracked:
The Economist Dives into the Ski Industry - "White powder can drive many people mad." That's a direct quote from The Economist, which looked at the newfound profitability of the ski industry, thanks to the rise of multi-resort passes, consolidation, and a very intentional pricing structure.
#jibthebec - Finn Bilous is a hilarious human being. Halfway up hiking to the top of the Bec De Rosses for the FWT finals, he turned on his GoPro to have a few words and give the PSA that it was time to “jib the bec!”
Thanks for reading and see you next week,
